      • The issue I was raising was not making the ENTIRE forest smaller, but like you said releasing it in pieces. For an area the size he has put down to be done, he would have to have lots of mobs to keep it interesting. There is no point in having an area this size with three or four repetative mobs. -- DevonScarfe - 12 Sep 2003

  • You might wanna scale all of this down a bit. That's a very large area, and would require lots of different mobs and such to keep it interesting. -- DevonScarfe - 11 Sep 2003

    • I have no issue with the size - if anything it could be bigger (through lots of mini releases) - I'd just like to see it more realistic in its layout. I suppose I see forest/hills/etc as backbone stuff containing lots of miniareas ( cave, hut, etc ). I'd like to see this grow into something like that. Forests don't just exist in limbo - they have clearings, dense bits, edges where they interact with other terrain types... -- FantoM - 11 Sep 2003

Comments

  • The map seems very contrived. It's a nice square. Are forests square? Are there NO features within it worthy of note or which might alter the player's ability to move in all directions?
  • Why can we go n/s/e/w in all rooms but not ne/se/nw/sw? Is it a pine plantation?
  • More detail is required in the monsters - levels/etc. See "help sample proposal" in the mud.
  • What haunted mansion?
  • The train to the haunted mansion seems very odd. What is stopping the player move north/south off this path?
  • Where will this forest go? This effects the terrain and the descriptions of the edge-rooms.
  • Most forests need some form of water - is there a stream/river?
  • On the topic of terrain, why not introduce some - surely it's not dead flat? Introducing some features like terrain and streams and the like will help make it easier to write your descriptions.

Summary It's basically a forest which is full of animals and hunters. Nothing special.

(entrance)

Note: # leads back to the secret passage of the haunted mansion.

Monsters Mostly animals and some hunters in there. Level 20-50 as said earlier.

Weapons There are some weapons. Hunter's bow etc. Not very strong but good for newbies.

Armour There are some armour. Animals' pelts and leather armour(from hunter) etc.

Sample of a room Here it goes(the entrance):

A huge oak tree stands in the midst of all the pine trees. This place is so foggy that almost nothing can be seen. To the east lies unknown creature and infinite darkness. The ground looks wet and muddy. Hacked body parts can be seen on the ground. An old wooden sign is hanging on the tree.

Sign sample: An old wooden sign made from pine trees. Perhaps you might want to 'read' it.

Beware, for the forest lies unknown creature. You might not be able to get out once you have entered the forest. Retreat while you still have chance.

Weapon sample:

A simple long bow used for hunting. The string of the bow is soft yet thick enough to provide the user strength to shoot. This bow is painted in red.

Armour sample(leather armour): This armour is made of the skin of an animal. It emits a foul stench that none other can stand. It looks like it's rotting. This armour is soft but it can at least prevent one from getting hurt much.
